Overview

Introduction

The WordPress / WooCommerce plugin is the simplest way to create a cut-to-size e-commerce store.

You can integrate with your existing store, or start from scratch.

It allows customers to enter their required cuts and create an order which is easy for you to fulfil via a printable PDF.

Features

  • Allow the user to input their part requirements.
  • Show a cutlist diagram on the product page.
  • Add the correct number of stock to the cart.
  • View a PDF of the required cuts from the order.

Pricing

The plugin uses our API and you only pay for SmartCut API access. The plugin is available without additional cost.

Requirements

  • WooCommerce must be installed.
  • Your domain must be added to your SmartCut account.
  • Your theme/child theme must use the standard WooCommerce filters and actions – if these are missing, the plugin will not work.

Installation

  • Download the latest version of the plugin.
  • In the WordPress admin area, open the ‘Plugins’ menu and then select ‘Add New’. On the next page, click ‘Upload Plugin’, and use the zip file provided.
  • Once the plugin is installed you will have a new menu within ‘Settings’ and the product pages named ‘SmartCut’.

Translation

If you wish to translate the plugin into your own language, it’s a fairly simple job. Recommended process below:

  • Install the ‘Loco translate’ plugin.
  • Activate Loco translate.
  • Select ‘Plugins’ from the ‘Loco Translate’ menu.
  • Find ‘SmartCut’.
  • Create a new language, and use ‘System’ as the location.
  • Translate the relevant words and save.

Quickstart

  • Create a cut-to-size product category.
  • Head to Settings > SmartCut and enter the cut-to-size category slug.
  • Head to Tools > SmartCut Templates to create template products.
  • Use these templates to create products which fit your own structure.
  • When testing, there are limits to the number of parts and stock which can be used.

Setup

  • The plugin makes use of ‘Simple’ or ‘Variable’ products.
  • Each product must be formed of a stock material of fixed dimensions.
  • Variable products are used to allow the user to select any options you may provide, examples are below:
    • Thickness
    • Paint finish
    • Variety of stock (for example, type of MDF / Plywood)
    • Please read the WooCommerce notes on variable products for more information.

Settings

A variety of settings are provided to help you customize the plugin, including:

  • Blade width
  • Max parts
  • Cut preference
  • Stock trim
  • Ability to set a product category for cut-to-size products
  • Colors to suit your brand

Product setup

  • The two required attributes are ‘Length’ and ‘Width’ – these are used to specify the dimensions of the stock. You can add other dimensions (such as thickness) to suit your product structure.
  • These attributes must be a single value.
  • From within the ‘SmartCut’ tab, you can set other product-specific settings.
  • Use mm as the unit.

Pricing strategies

Various pricing strategies are available, as follows:

  • Full sheet – allows you to charge for a minimum of one sheet, with the option to allow the customer to be sent the offcuts.
  • Part area – allows you to charge by part area. Product pricing should be input in square metres.
  • Cut length – allows you to charge by cut length. Product pricing should be input in square metres.
  • Full sheet plus cut length.
  • Full sheet plus number of parts.

There is also the ability to add a surcharge for cut-to-size products.

Banding setup

  • Set up banding by creating a standard WooCommerce product for banding – use price per meter/foot.
  • On the product you would like to enable banding, open up the SmartCut settings menu and enter the banding product slugs using commas to separate them and no spaces.
  • The pricing will be used to calculate the banding pricing.

Units

  • Units are set in the main options menu from the WordPress dashboard.
  • Decimal is the default.
  • Decimal units require dimensions in mm. Banding is priced by the meter.
  • Fractional units require dimensions in inches. Banding is priced by the foot.
